Friday!

South Bank flowers.

It’s Friday and Friday seems to be link round up day if you happen to have a blog. So lets try this out!

Thinking of signing up for this race. I’ve started running again in these “shoes”.

Working on this shawl with some yarn that I’ve had for several years.

Need to find some lamps for the bedroom and really like these, but not sure if I want to pay shipping. Most of our former lamps (all sold when we moved here) were less than $30 so this would be a big step up in spending on lighting for us. Although any decent lamp I’ve seen in Australia starts around AU$80-$100 and may not include a shade. Any clue what’s up with that? Anyone in Australia have store recommendations for home wares?

Looking at soap dish ideas on Etsy. Might make one? Possibly? Haven’t quite found one that I want to buy yet.

I’m a fan of simple earrings and covet these, these, and these on Scoutmob.

I’ve cut my hair before and I’m considering it again. This tutorial is spot on if you’re interesting in trying it yourself.

We’re going to a BBQ tomorrow and might see some koalas on Sunday. Enjoy your weekend!

None of these links are sponsored, it’s just stuff that I use myself or that I think are pretty/cool/useful/interesting.

Changes around here.

This year has brought a couple changes to my life.  After 9 years together, Mr. EG and I were married in May.

Yes, I wore a red dress.

Another change? Well, after 7 years of being car-less, we’ve bought a 2007 Prius.

Mr. EG and our “new” car. (Or, “Why are you making me be in this photo?”)

I was told by a co-worker that I had to take one of these photos. Apparently it’s a “thing” to have a photo where the owner is jumping (from happiness?) with their Prius.

This change has probably been the bigger of the two. I mean, we can actually buy more food than we can carry on the bus or in a backpack (or in a bag over my shoulder while riding my bike). I can actually be home for dinner with Mr. EG (3pm to midnight is a weird shift to work). We can take mini road trips along the coast! Or go camping in one of the many parks out here! The only drawback (besides now having a car payment each month) is that I haven’t ridden my bike since buying the car. And I think that’s why my knees are now sore. So bike riding will be thought of as cross training for this race that we signed up for in September.  Should be fun. And we now have a way to get there.

Ice Bath

I’m in the last few weeks of training for the Philadelphia Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.  Yesterday I ran 9 miles.  I haven’t run this far since the Broad Street Run.  This time around, I’ve started doing ice baths after my long runs and really tough workouts.  Basically after my hot shower, I run a cold bath with enough water to cover my legs and lower hips. Then I toss in a bag of ice and a tray or two of ice cubes.  After the first two minutes it’s not that bad (the first minute  is “oh sh*t this is cold”.  A cup of hot tea, a book to read, my clock ticking beside me and I’m set for the next 25 minutes.  This results in  not having to hobble around for the next two days from sore muscles.  Crazy? Yes.  But it’s working.
